About a month ago, I was at our club meeting, and one of our members was selling some old builtups and parts. My good friend Howard Weinstein turned me on to a '60 Buick Convertible that I bought. (Thanks Howard) I also picked up a '64 Plymouth Fury Hardtop. It was heavilly spray painted, missing the rear bumper, engine, seats, and glass. I placed an order to The Modelhaus for a promo interior tub, which is the correct way to build this one Replica Stock. Back in the day, JoHan had the kit and promo contracts from Chrysler Corporation for its full sized cars. It seems strange to me, but the '64 Plymouth Fury and Dodge Polara promos had the correct bench seat interiors, while the model kits had bucket seat interiors, but the bodies and wheel covers did not reflect what came on the upper level models, the Plymouth Sport Fury and Dodge Polara 500. So as a modeler, a truly correct model was not possible in the strictest sense.
I stripped the paint, carved in the fender separation lines, removed the flash, and leveled out the body. I have to decide on the powertrain chassis source. More than likely the car will be built to represent a 426 Super Commando car, with either blackwalls and dog dishes, or full wheelcovers and whitewalls, for that sleeper look. I am going to add some detail to this one, using an AMT chassis and underhood detail.
I have narrowed the color combination down to three:
PP-1 Ruby (Red) on Red
EE-1 Dark Blue on Blue
LL-1 Dark Turquoise on Aqua.
What color do you do you think I should go with????
